Action stations: two huge events this Thursday!

Dear friends,

If you’re free on Thursday morning, there’s a lot going on in London!

1. Tell John Kerry ‘No tar sands, no KXL!’
US Secretary of State John Kerry will soon decide whether or not to give the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline the go-ahead. If built, the massive KXL pipeline will hugely increase the future viability of the tar sands industry – and set the stage for tar sands imports to Europe.

John Kerry will be in London on Thursday 11th April for a G8 meeting. We plan to be there when he arrives, to give him a clear message: reject the KXL, keep tar sands out of Europe!

Over the last few weeks in the US, Kerry and President Obama have been met wherever they go by people with the same No KXL message. Let’s stand in solidarity with Canada’s First Nations, our US allies, and everyone already suffering the effects of climate change, and show Secretary Kerry that this is a global concern.

We’ll meet on the corner of Pall Mall and Marlborough Rd at 8am. Please join us if you can – it will only take an hour or so.

2. BP AGM – fourth year running
It’s also the BP AGM on Thursday, and like the last three years, we will be there, inside and out. You may not have heard that BP have two new tar sands projects on the go, have just closed down their US wind business, and are having a hard time defending themselves in court over the Deepwater Horizon drilling disaster. To find out more about the inner workings of the greenwash monster and challenge the board with clever and pointed questions, join us on Thursday at the Excel Centre. We’ll be meeting outside from 10.30am, the AGM starts at 11.30.

If you just want to help with flyering outside, you can just turn up on the day, but if you would like to come inside the AGM you must let us know by tomorrow midday at the latest.

And yes, you could come to both events!

Hope to see you there,

Jess, Ruthi, Sue and Emily

PS Thanks to all of those that have already supported the fundraiser to bring a delegation of First Nations to the  Shell AGM. If you haven’t yet, please think about donating.
